Today, I will be pointing you to a few free brushes to use with Photoshop (Elements and Original). I used these today to create the sample page below.
1) To create this page I started out with an 8.5 x 11 blank sheet and added a gradient of burgundy to black over the layer.

2) Next using the special effects I added a texture of mesh over top of it.

3) This is where I started adding some flair to the background with the Swirly brushes.

The two sets of brushes I used to add the swirls are: Grunge Swirls by Scully and Swirl Brushes from EasyElements. I adjusted the sizes and set the brush to only 19% opacity to just lightly change the background.

4) After adding the brush elements I added another layer and drew a rounded corner box.

This box layer I set the opacity to 35%.

5) Now I added the Negatives to the Layer using the Film Brushes also by Scully.

6) To highlight the filmstrips I used I added using the special effects a satin finish to it to give it some body and added a small drop shadow.

7) On top of the Film Strip I added my Photos I have of Mystic.

Now, I used a script font I had in my collection. I will post a link when I find where I downloaded it from. I made the font the same color as the background and used a outer glow to highlight the wording.

9) I then made another layer for the text box - I used another rounded box and added a parchment texture to it before adding the layer of text using a handwriting font I bought online called swirls.

Below is the finished product.

I had a few people write in and ask about how I print my scrapbook pages. Well, I believe I do my pages slightly differently then a lot of people. I never liked the 12×12 size pages. First, they are really hard to store and I don’t have a printer that will print 12×12 pages - I know a few of you use the 8×8 printing on home printers. But one time I was at the local craft store they had a really nice 8 1/2 x 11 scrapbooking binders for digital scrabooking (Similar to this on Amazon) and Refills Here.

I do all my printing on a Canon Pixima MP520 Printer - I love this printer as it does a fantasitc job scanning and printing. This printer uses archival inks when used with Canon’s Paper and each color is a seperate tank. Using seperate tanks are a hugh advantage as you don’t need to buy a new ink tank when only one color is used up. So, if you used alot of red - you only have to replace the red. Briliant! And as far as paper - I use the one I linked above. I think the matte finish is the best looking color this printer can produce. Since you are going to be storing this in a glossy sheet holder not having a glossy surface really doesn’t make a difference at all and did I mention that colors look great on the matte finish?

The last product I use is using the rollabind system to make my own albums and covers. Thes only require the rollabind hole punch and rollabind discs. These are a really nice

So you got yourself a copy of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements and want start creating your digital scrapbooks. You have scoured the net in search of the right brushes to use for your masterpiece but you are not sure how to add them into PS. Well, Don’t Despair - I have found you a really easy to understand tutorial on the net that explains how to copy and use your new found gems er– Brushes.

Hawksmont Universe Has a tutorial on how to add your downloaded brushes into Adobe Photoshop. It really is a worthwhile read and can help you understand the basics of brushes.

But first I would like to answer a question I received - How to I unzip or un compress the brushes I have downloaded. First, If you are using Windows XP or Vista - You have within Explorer a built in un-zipper. This is good but not the best program available for the job. I encourage the use of freeware/open source tools whenever possible and I would suggest 7-zip as a wonderful open source utility. Plus here is a series of viedos on how to use 7-zip.

Enjoy and Happy Scrapping

Yes - It is nearing that time of year so I found you a couple of wonderful Christmas Fonts. As you can see in the images below here are a few of the things you can be doing with these fonts.

The Christmas Kittens

The two fonts I used in the above Photo are:

WW Flakes Font - Found at DA Font

Christmas Flakes Font - Found at DA Font

To recreate this photo -
First I Typed in the title of the photo using the Christmas Flakes Font - Then I applied a 2 layer effects -

1) Added a 2px Stroke to the Font in a Darker Evergreen Color

2) I then used the Outer Glow to apply a nice Candy Cane Red Glow (Set to Normal - 16px size and 11% Spread)

To Create the falling Snow Flakes I added six seperate layer using the WW Flakes Font in various sizes and applied the following layer effects:

1) Bevel of 5 px

2) Color Overlay of Light Blue with 50% Opacity

The Snowy Corner was Created by the following:

1) Create a new layer - Call it snow.

2) Click on this new layer.

3) Using the Brush Tool - using White Color in the Palette Added a curved white frost to the windows.

4) Now using the Eraser Tool - I Used the Smoother Round Bristle Brush set at 100px to slightly remove some of the snow to creat the just frozen layer to the window.

Now you can print and Scrapbook this Photo - Or Upload it to your favorite photo sharing place and Share with your friends.

Great - You are interested in Scrapbooking - But you want to do it digitally. Fantastic - That is what this blog is all about.

I recently found this great intro to digital scrapbooking on Scrapbooking.com in their Tip and tutorial section.

This article is about what you need to get started and get you in the right mindset.

First I would like to preface this article by saying digital scrapbooking is really easy and in my humble opinion much more fun the traditional scrapbooking. First you can play around with your layout to your hearts content and you don’t have to destroy any photos (Since they are digital) and you can move them add elements to them, twist them and play with them until you love your layout.

Second I love using the 8.5″ x 11 Inch print out as it can fit in many more binders and gives you a better range of printing options. You can even print out your layout at walmart or ritz on the 8.5×11 print option.

Well point your browser to Scrapbook.com and take a gander at this wonderful article.
